adventure2006 / Kauai
August 30, 2006
In August of 2006 I visited the Hawaiian islands of Kauai and Oahu. The majority of the visit was to Kauai, but I did a day trip to the island of Oahu. Oahu is like the Los Angeles of Hawaii. There was a substantial amount of traffic, and a limited amount of friendliness on this island. Although the scenery on the island was just as spectacular as on the other Hawaii islands, I would not go back there myself. I go to Hawaii to get away from the crowds, and there are just too many of them on this island.
Kauai, on the other hand, was amazing. It was very sparsely populated, with chickens outnumbering humans. It was quite wet and rainy for most of the trip, but since it is tropical, it was not cold. The beaches were just as nice and there was a slightly smaller chance of getting sun burnt with more cloud cover.
I visited the "Grand Canyon of the Pacific," Waimea Canyon. It is the largest canyon in the Pacific. There are amazing views from the edges of the canyon, and it reminded me of the Grand Canyon but wetter and more lively. It is very pretty and I would recommend visiting Kauai if going to Hawaii.
I was too busy having fun, so there aren't as many pictures from this trip, sorry:
